Symptoms:
- Since upgrading to Mac OS X Snow Leopard you have noticed that you can only empty the trash using the Secure option
- Emptying the trash takes an excessive amount of time on Mac OS X Snow Leopard
- When you open the Trash the button to empty reads Empty Secure. There is no Empty button
Explanation:
The OS X Finder preference “Empty Trash securely” is enabled.
Solution:
- Open OS X’s Finder by clicking the Finder icon in your dock
- Open Finder Preferences by clicking Finder menu, Preferences or by pressing CMD+, on your keyboard
- Click Advanced
- Clear the check mark for the option “Empty Trash securely”
- Close Preferences
